According to Al Sharpton, bail is being posted for Mychal Bell. Reed Walters, the controversial district attorney, who orchestrated the racist prosecution of Mychal Bell and the rest of the “Jena six,” decided not to appeal a court decision to move Bell’s case to juvenile court. Since the case is now in juvenile court bail was reduced to $45,000. Sharpton didn’t make it clear who was putting up the bail, but he said that the bail bondsman was working on the paper work that would get Bell out of custody.
During his comments regarding his choice not to appeal the court’s ruling Walters made another interesting statement. “I firmly believe and am confident of the fact that had it not been for the direct intervention of the Lord Jesus Christ last Thursday, a disaster would
have happened. The Lord Jesus Christ put his influence on those people and they responded accordingly. Mr. Walters refuse to explain his comments, but I wonder if they do not provide us with a glimpse into the way the District Attorney views African Americans. I mean was his comments seemed to indicate that he was concerned about a riot, because of the presence of so many African Americans in Jena. It is sad that so many people—especially in the South—still have such strong racist opinions.
As I have written before I strongly believe that the Revs Sharpton and Jackson were exploiting Mychal Bell by not doing everything they could to get him out of jail. So, I am glad to see that, at last, he is going to be free.

Yeah, might as well say all people in the south are racist. But if this is so, why do we have the way more minorities in the south? Seems to me if it’s so bad, they would be moving north to live with “smarter” white people in the northern part of the country.

hi Chris, I never said that people in the South were not as smart as people in the South. Nor did I suggest that the South is the only part of the country that is suffering from racism. But, I don’t think its wrong to say that there is still more systemic racism in the South than the North. However, I believe that the racism in the North is less systemic, but more individualized. For example, I think whites in the North are more afraid of Blacks than are whites in the South, because northern whites do not grow up knowing as many blacks as do whites in the south. Does that make sense?

The events that have transpired in Jena La. should have never happened. This is 2007.America is supose to be an the symbol of fairness to rest of the world. These events have just helped to tarnish our shine. Racism is alive and well in America with out any doubt. Some of us may not be able to see it but trust me it is there. You may not always be able to see the air that you breath but you definately know when it is or is not present. Now to reply to statement made earlier by Chris. If African Americans all moved to the north then who would the racist individuals in the South have to persecute. Wouldn’t that feeling of hatred just linger with no target. A hungry dog might feed on their own and wouldn’t that be a tragedy.
